Fuel Surcharge Index.org was designed as collaborative effort of carriers, shippers, software developers and other companies and individuals to properly calculate a fuel surcharge based on daily retail fuel prices along a specific lane.
Fuel Surcharge Index.org allows transparency in the information used in calculating fuel surcharges for the North American freight market. For years shippers and carriers have been dependent on the D.O.E. weekly national or regional average retail fuel price as a reference point on which to base fuel surcharges. With the technology of Fuel Surcharge Index.org, carriers and shippers can now base a fuel surcharge calculation on the actual daily retail price of diesel fuel along a lane, thereby making the price accurate for a specific load and date.
As we launch this service, we have included information we felt (based on feedback from various shippers and carriers) would accommodate most, if not all, users of the service. Of course we may find that additional options may be needed. If you happen to encounter a situation where the information you need is not presented, please contact us so that we may explore the ability to add to the services.
